Compassionate Kneads by Justine

Relaxation, mobility and pain are improved by the caring touch of skillful hands. Massage provides a smoother recovery from illness or injury, prepares tissues prior to competition and relieves discomfort after strenous events. Most of all, massage improves the overall general well-being of your pet.

Why Massage?

Tight or painful muscles can bring unwanted behavior or the resistance to move in a particular direction due to your companion's muscular discomfort. Massage techniques properly applied can remove pain and muscle spasms. Also muscle stiffness and inflexibility can be altered through appropriate use of massage techniques. Furthermore, massage promotes relaxation and decreases stress which boosts the immune system and improves the body's ability to fight off infection.

Benefits of Massage:

The benefits for massage therapy can be physical, mental and emotional:

* Improves Concentration and Alertness

* Decreases Stress and Anxiety

* Promotes Healing of Arthritis and Injury

Techniques:

Effleurage - a very soft and slow touch that moves the blood to the surface.

Passive Touch - improves circulation to an area without movement or pressure.

Kneading - light, repetitive pressure that can work directly under the skin and into deeper muscles for relaxation.

Percussion - a stimulating technique that is used on weak or tight muscles.

Passive Joint Movement - a gentle movement of the limbs to increase the range of motion in the joints

Disclaimer: Massage does not take the place of veterinary medicine. You should consult your veterinarian with the specific question about or for specific diagnosis of your animal's health.
